Model magic is expensive.
But it's also fun.
Here's a recipe that works ALMOST as well as the real stuff.

Here's a recipe that works ALMOST as well as the real stuff.
2 cups baking soda
1 cup corn starch
1 1/2 cups cold water
Mix it all together in a pan- smooth it out.
Heat up the ingredients- they will boil- stir until lumps are removed. It will be about the constitency of frosting. Remove when it is evenly mixed and after it came to a boil- allow to cool a bit and then knead with some more corn starch.
This is air-dry clay and can be painted. It's also gluten free as long as you don't add any other ingredients. The clay will last a bt as long as you keep it slightly damp and sealed.
This type of modeling material is a great sensory experience and kids love making sculptures!
If you don't want to make this, though- another tip is this: before going to the Art and craft store, print a coupon from the store website. AC Moore, Micheal's, and Joanne's all take competitor's coupons.
Have fun!
