Hello to my new and returning young friends and parents!
Welcome to (or back to) the CCS art program and to school! I am looking forward to a new year full of engaging art-making and curriculum, special arts events at CCS, and of course, getting to know all my new and returning students! CCS strives to be a supportive environment for the arts and for educating well-rounded children!
Kindergarten and first grade classes have art once a cycle (every six days) for one hour. Kindergarten's first unit is titled "Making My Art" and focuses on the enduring idea of how young artists can safely use and experiment with a variety of new materials to create unique artworks. First grade's first unit is titled "What Makes Me, Me?" and focuses on the enduring idea of Identity and concepts of self esteem and how artists can portray identity.
I suggest sending your student to school with a smock (big, old tee-shirts really are best for this purpose), with their name written on the front of the smock to make passing shirts out faster (this gets us making art sooner!). There really is no need to purchase a fancy, expensive smock.
I'll be posting projects and information about special projects and Art Department events here, and volunteer or donation opportunities. Please contact me with any questions you may have!
Looking forward to another great year in creativity,
Mrs. Teodecki
A short, interesting video about the importance of art in students' lives:
